Ask a Question #7 – If you were going to get a tattoo of song lyrics, what would it be?

I’ve fallen in love with enough song lyrics that if I indulged this (instead of just talking about it), I’d only be ink and blood at this point. I’ve got a short list of songs that whenever they come on if somebody else is in the room with me I’ll say, “Some day I might get these lyrics tattooed on me.”

Mostly it’s bullshit because I probably won’t, but who knows. Maybe the future will be quarantine stick and poke tattoos.

Anyway, here are the top five lyrics I’d get if I was getting a tattoo of song lyrics. I don’t think they’re in any particular order.

1 – “The ones who love us best are the ones we’ll lay to rest And visit their graves on holidays at best, The ones who love us least are the ones we’ll die to please If it’s any consolation, I don’t begin to understand them.” The Replacements, Bastards of Young

2 – “Your heart is a muscle the size of your fist / Keep on loving, keep on fighting / And hold on, and hold on
Hold on for your life.” Ramshackle Glory, Your Heart is a Muscle the Size of Your Fist

3 – “And when you looked at her / Her hands covered in clay / And a smile on her face / Did the thought just escape you? / Maybe your time and your money are not enough to save you, Maybe your time and your money just won’t save you / Just won’t save you.” Sayde Price, Untitled #3

4 – “I’m a candle. I’m a candle. / Chop my neck a million times, I still burn bright and stand, yo.” Saul Williams, Burundi

5 – “As time it speeds and slows / Your guts they ache from the change / You fear you’ve lost control / Cuz nothing ever stays the same.” RVIVR, Change on Me

That’s my list. What about you? You maddeningly quiet prankster in the bushes? Tattoo lyrics?
